Smiles all around as Keenan Recycling sponsor the Falkirk 2013 Community Football Team

KEENAN RECYCLING ARE PROUD TO BE SPONSORING THE FALKIRK 2013 COMMUNITY FOOTBALL TEAM AND HELPING THEM GET A FULL NEW KIT FOR THE SEASON AHEAD.

The team is the latest product of the Falkirk Football Community Foundation, which replaces the Falkirk Youth academy after it unfortunately lost its funding. One of our Glasgow drivers, Brian Reid, is a coach for the team along with Ryan Hunter and Zoe Taylor. They coach a squad of 6 players each and they play in the Forth Valley Development league every Saturday morning against other teams in the Forth Valley area, with great success this season!

The team consists of boys aged 6-7 years old who have been playing since they were 3 years old! They started off in the “Mini Bairns” team progressing onto the Falkirk Junior Academy. They then had trials for the community team where they secured their places. They train two times a week, and even get to train in the Falkirk Stadium! Brian described the training sessions as:

“focusing on the fun side of football whilst developing team spirit, basic ball skills, and an understanding of the game”

We love to see how the team is allowing the young boys to find their passion within football, whilst having fun and learning new skills! However, with the current season upcoming, the team encountered some obstacles. Brian explains:

“Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 crisis, Falkirk Football Club had to place most of their back room staff on Furlough, and with no games taking place and no fans allowed in to watch, the funding for teams like ours was stopped. The boys had to try and find sponsors for their kits or they wouldn’t have been able to purchase new gear for the season ahead.”

Brian explained this situation to our Collections Director, Claire Keenan, who was happy to help them out and set in motion for Keenan Recycling to sponsor them.

“They now all have a full kit, with the Keenan logo on, which they all love wearing.”

Andrew Gerlach, Head of Service Delivery, and Stephen Zok, Transport Operations Manager, were able to visit the team practicing last week, and see them in action with their new kit. Keenan Recycling are so proud to be able to help the team out with their kit this season and wish them all the best and continued success within their league!
